We have some sad news to share today. Recently one of our senior admins, Simon, had to leave Rebrickable for health reasons. Unfortunately, we received news from his family that he passed away on 19th December, at the age of 62.
Simon was a long-time member of our Rebrickable community, joining in 2012, and eventually joined our admin team in late 2017. Right away, he had an enormous impact on all of us. His choice of a hippy avatar image hints at his care-free and happy personality.
Simon was instrumental in many of the improvements to Rebrickable in the last 2 years:
- Improved many of the Set and Part images, spending thousands of hours on rendering new LDraw images
- Improved the catalog for very early sets and colors, including the Modulex system
- Helped me get organised and make better use of the blog for reviews and other interesting posts
- Provided lots of support and encouragement to our users in the Forums
Other than the technical stuff, Simon provided mentoring and support for the admin team. Running such a large site can be stressful at times and while we don't always agree on everything, his calming influence always helped put things into perspective.
He was direct and objective, giving you confidence that your idea, whether good or bad, would be analysed fully and the feedback would be honest. His absence is a canyon, not just because of the work he did, but because of the missing voice.
Our thoughts are with his wife and three daughters, he will be sorely missed.
Take care, and keep smiling :)
