The 10245 Santa's Workshop set is this year's Christmas holiday set. It comes with six minifigures and several smaller models, not to mention some cute Reindeers.

Box Contents

The box contains:

  • 9 x Numbered bags of parts (3x#1+ #x#2 + 3x#3).
  • 3 x 18L hoses (1 is spare).
  • Plastic wrap with instructions (2 books) + sticker sheet. No cardboard backing though.

See the full inventory of 883 parts.

There are six minifigs in this set. Santa and Mrs Claus, plus 4 elves.

I don't pay enough attention to Minifigs to know if these are new or old designs. I know the elves hats/ear pieces showed up in two sets last year. Santa's sack might be new though (element 6055830).

Only Mrs Claus and one of the elves have dual sided face prints. For some reason she is angry and he is crying. It doesn't really seem to fit the Christmas holiday theme.

Perhaps the elf was busted doing something that upset Mrs Claus :)

In addition to the elves there are 5 reindeer - 4 pulling the sleigh and one smaller one. They are a cute design, with a newly printed 2x2 bow piece on their backs.

There seem to be some new printed parts and colors in this set, and maybe one new design mold in Santa's Sack as I can't find any previous version of it.

Of the four reindeer fur printed parts, one of them had a slightly different color to the printing. I've never noticed this level of inconsistency before with LEGO parts. In this image, I have three identical to the part on the left, and the part on the right is unique with a slightly lighter shade to the printing. Were they running out of ink perhaps? ;)

The build starts out with the smaller Reindeer, a Christmas Tree, and a North Pole sign.

Next up is Santa's Sleigh. I really like this model, actually more so than the Workshop. It has some great parts usage including sideways and as well as upside down connections. The color combinations work really great too - there are plenty of Pearl Gold parts in the set which work well against the Red and Dark Green parts in the Sleigh.

Two 18L hoses connect the Sleigh to the four Reindeer. The antlers of each Reindeer need to be positioned differently though, as they overlap.

The Workshop is built next. There are two parts to the building, the first is a two-story building with a fireplace downstairs. The upstairs room is connected via a ladder, where Santa has a great big comfy chair and a desk covered in letters.

There are some pretty interesting features on this building, I really like the look of the front with the two pedestals either site of the door, the snow falling off the awning, and just a nice general attention to details.

The second building is a single story, with what I guess is a workbench table. I didn't think there was anything too special about this one. It seems a bit boring compared to the first building.

The two buildings connect with one of the relatively new A-frame pieces.

Lastly, there is an interesting looking toy-making conveyor-belt machine thing.

This set will make a nice addition to existing Christmas holiday displays. It also provides plenty of playability, with six minifigs and all the smaller models.

There was one glaring omission in a Christmas themed set, complete with Santa Claus and Reindeers. It's something that can easily be rectified with a single red 1x1 round plate/tile part though.

This set is now available for sale to VIPs via LEGO Shop, or check the country specific links on the set's details page. It will be generally available to everyone else on 1st October.

Very thorough review! I read a review on this Lego Santa set from Ninja Brick and they just said it wasn't good quality or detail. But looking at your images (especially the reindeer), it seems this isn't the case. Might have to add this to my long list of sets i want for Christmas from Santa!

Nice review Nathan, good pics too! I like the design of the reindeer and the sled, not really impressed with the house though.

Yeah, my favourite bits are everything but the building! I wish the reindeer/sleigh was available seperately.

Well, you could always order the missing parts and then build the reindeer/sleigh using the online instructions :)
